The institutions took this step after the US and Britain announced they were cracking down on anyone helping Russia evade sanctions.
In Turkey, two of the five banks that accept Russian Mir payment cards have suspended their work. This is stated in the material of the Reuters agency, published on Monday, September 19.
According to the publication, the financial institutions Isbank, which is the largest private bank in Turkey, and Denizbank announced the suspension of the service of the aforementioned payment system.
As indicated, they took a step after the United States and Great Britain announced that they were intensifying their fight against anyone who helps Russia evade sanctions, and also against the backdrop of inclusion in Washington’s “black list” of head of the Mir payment system operator.
“Currently, we cannot provide services within the Mir system. The bank operates in accordance with international sanctions standards,” said Denizbank.
Recall that in early August, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that five banks began the process of introducing work into the Russian payment system Mir.
Earlier it became known that the Chinese payment system UnionPay banned the service of its cards issued by foreign banks at the POS-terminals of Russian acquiring banks that fell under the sanctions.
