The US Department of Defense believes that the Kremlin leader will be forced to change his plans for Ukraine.
The head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, had to change the goals of the war in Ukraine, because the military defeat and lack of resources proved Russia’s inability to achieve its original intentions. This was said by the Pentagon’s intelligence chief, Lieutenant General Scott Berrier at a conference on intelligence and homeland security, according to the AP publication.
“Now we have reached a point where, I believe, Putin has to reconsider the goals of his” operation. The American official expressed his opinion.
Putin invaded Ukraine on February 24 with the aim of seizing Kyiv and overthrowing the Ukrainian government, the Pentagon recalled. As a result, after six months of unsuccessful battles for the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian military managed to drive out the Russian invaders in the Kharkiv region.
“The Russians were planning an occupation, not necessarily an invasion, and that’s what set them back,” Berrier said.
According to him, Putin does not want to conduct a general mobilization in Russia.
However, CIA Deputy Director David Cohen expressed the opinion that the US should not underestimate Putin’s idea to implement his original program to occupy the whole of Ukraine.
“I don’t think we have any reason to believe that he’s moved on from her,” Cohen replied.
He also believes the US should not underestimate Putin’s “risk appetite.” However, the United States has not yet seen the real preparations of the Russian Federation for the possible use of nuclear weapons. The Kremlin has so far limited itself to harsh statements.
