Ambassador European Union (Europe) in Peru, Gaspar Frontini explained the proposals that the community block is promoting to overcome the energy crisis caused by the war between Russia and Ukraine.
In an interview with News Extension from PTRpointed out that the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, proposed to the European Parliament to set a limit on the profits of electricity companies and impose a tax on oil companies.
According to him, this short-term fee will be distributed “between the sectors most affected by the crisis.”
Gaspar Frontini explained that in the long run this initiative Europe it is an “opportunity” to “turn towards a more sustainable economy, and in that sense there are measures to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, gas and oil.”
Ambassador European Union in Peru, he also said the regional bloc was seeking to bring down the price of electricity, “which has skyrocketed in Europe.”
In this regard, the European Commission has proposed limiting the price per megawatt hour to 180 euros for energies with low cost of electricity production (renewable energy sources, nuclear energy and lignite).
