Germany explains Ukraine’s rejection of Leopard tanks

Berlin believes that the preparation of the Ukrainian military is too long to work on battle tanks.

The German coalition decided not to supply Leopard battle tanks to Ukraine, because “it will take time to train the Ukrainian military.” This is what the co-chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Germany Lars Klingbeil said, according to the German edition Bild on Thursday, September 15.

According to him, the preparations for work on the Leopard battle tanks took too long to have any effect at this stage of the war.

He added that during Panzerhaubitze 2000 training, the Ukrainian military itself requested to train longer than planned.

The German official also added that his country is providing Kyiv with Mars-2 multiple launch rocket systems and Dingo armored vehicles.

It should be noted that German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock insists on making a decision as soon as possible on the supply of German battle tanks to Ukraine.

The head of the German Foreign Ministry recalled the occupied Balakliya and stressed that Western weapons are helping Ukrainians to liberate their territories.

German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht previously announced plans to provide Ukraine with another batch of military equipment.

In addition, for the first time since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Germany will transfer armored vehicles to the Armed Forces of Ukraine – 50 Dingo armored vehicles.
