Demonstrators believe Pashinyan plans to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan that will keep the country within its Soviet borders. They took this as a rejection of their claims to Karabakh and now they are calling the prime minister a traitor.

It was noted that the activists tried to enter the parliament building by breaking down the gate, but were unsuccessful.

According to Novosti-Armenia, the protests began after Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, speaking during government time in parliament on Wednesday, announced his readiness to sign some documents, because of which he would be called a traitor.

“We want to sign a paper, because of this many people will criticize, scold, call us traitors, even if people can decide to remove us from power, we will be grateful if, as a result, Armenia will receive long-term peace and security in an area of ​​29,800 square meters. kilometers. I clearly say that I will sign the decision it will give. I am not interested in what will happen to me next, I am interested in what will happen in Armenia,” he said.

According to Interfax, before that, Pashinyan said that Armenia is ready to recognize the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan in the event of the withdrawal of the armed forces of this republic from Armenian territory, within the borders of the USSR.

“If they come out and stand on the borders of the USSR, we will recognize it. No, we will not recognize it. And it does not matter the military balance, or the allies, or whose ally is stronger. This is our political position , that will not change,” he said.

Many thought this was a rejection of claims to Karabakh and began to call the prime minister a traitor.

Behind the protests, the Prime Minister urged Armenia to “not give in to the destruction of external enemies.”

“Dear compatriots, I urge you, I ask you not to give in to manipulation. No document has been signed and is not being prepared for signing. This is an informational sabotage directed by external malicious forces to break the country’s resistance, ” wrote Pashinyan. in Facebook.
