Kyiv called on Baku and Yerevan for a diplomatic settlement of the conflict and points to the futility of Russian mediation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine responded to the military escalation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, calling on the parties to a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict. This was stated by the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oleg Nikolenko.
“Ukraine closely follows the development of the border situation between Azerbaijan and Armenia. We call on the parties to a political and diplomatic settlement of the conflict in compliance with the norms of international law, in particular, respect on sovereignty and territorial integrity of states within their internationally recognized borders,” he said.
Nikolenko also recalled Russia’s role in resolving this conflict.
“We note the insignificance of any mediation and peacekeeping efforts on the part of the Russian Federation, which once again demonstrates its inability to fulfill its obligations,” the spokesman said.
In addition, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is calling on Ukrainians to refrain from visiting Nagorno-Karabakh for the time being, and for those already in the region to avoid areas of military activity.
It will be remembered that the night before, Azerbaijan and Armenia accused each other of shelling, reported about the victims. The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan has announced a counter-terrorist operation called Retribution. It was noted that a number of heights in the territory of Karabakh were taken under control. Partial mobilization was announced in Nagorno-Karabakh. Today, the media reported that a ceasefire agreement had been reached.
