The plan of the funeral ceremonies of the deceased Queen Elizabeth II from the moment of death to the funeral was calculated within 10 days.
Today the coffin with the body of the monarch is in the great hall of Balmoral Castle, where he died. The casket is covered with the Royal Standard of Scotland and decorated with a wreath of flowers. The Times writes about it.
Today, September 10, Elizabeth II’s body will be taken to Holyrood Palace in Edinburgh and placed in the throne room so that the people of Scotland can say goodbye to the late monarch.
During transportation, they will use a lead coffin – this is the tradition of the British royal family. This is done to keep the body in a decent condition for a long time.
On Sunday, King Charles III will arrive in the Scottish capital. The new monarch is expected to lead the funeral procession at Edinburgh Cathedral.
On Monday, September 12, after the end of the farewell ceremony, the body of Elizabeth II will be transported by train to London, so that on Tuesday it will be in the throne room of Buckingham Palace. He will then be taken to the Palace of Westminster to allow everyone to pay their last respects to the monarch.
On Thursday evening, probably, in the coffin of Elizabeth II her children.
The funeral itself will take place next Sunday, September 18. The Palace of Westminster will be closed to the public at half past eight in the morning, and an hour later, the queen’s coffin will be placed in a horse-drawn carriage to be taken to Westminster Abbey, where the dean (rector) will officiate at a memorial service.
Following this, the coffin will be taken to Windsor Castle, where the interment will begin at 4:00 pm, presided over by the Dean of St George’s Chapel. Under the blessing of the Archbishop of Canterbury and the hymn God Save the Queen, the body will be lowered into the cellar. Before that, the royal jeweler will remove the royal regalia from the casket – the crown, the scepter and the state.
On Sunday night, members of the royal family will say goodbye to the deceased in a private ceremony.
It is assumed that Elizabeth II will be buried in King George VI’s memorial chapel, along with the remains of her parents and sisters. At the same time, according to other sources, it is possible that a special mausoleum will be built for the Queen and her husband Prince Philip in the same memorial chapel. He was buried at Windsor Castle in April 2021, in St George’s Chapel, where there is a royal crypt. The prince lived to be 99 years old.
We remind you, the 96-year-old Elizabeth II died on September 8 after lunch surrounded by family at the Scottish castle of Balmoral. His son, Prince Charles, will rule the United Kingdom. He took the name Charles III.
