What happens in Ukraine is crucial to Russia’s overall ability to pose any threat to any NATO member, Jens Stoltenberg said.
The aggressor country Russia has committed more than 80% of its ground forces to the war against Ukraine. On Friday, September 9, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a press conference with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken in Brussels.

“Now more than 80% of Russia’s ground forces are involved in the war in Ukraine. So, of course, what happens there is important to Russia’s overall ability to pose any threat to any NATO member country. My first message to the members of The Alliance we applaud the unprecedented support, we call for more support, and we encourage them to explore the reserves more deeply to continue to provide Ukraine with what it needs immediately,” said Stoltenberg.
He noted that the allies must be ready for the “long term”, and therefore NATO is in contact with the military-industrial complex of the member countries.
“We have put in place structures here in NATO for defense planning, capabilities to ensure that now we are increasing production, that we are restocking so that we can continue to support Ukraine. But it’s not just about supporting Ukraine – it is also about ensuring that we have weapons, ammunition, means for our own deterrence and defense,” said the Alliance Secretary General.
Notably, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Russian President Vladimir Putin “lost every bet he made” on the war in Ukraine.
