The Armed Forces of Ukraine achieved a significant victory in the Kharkiv region and caused panic in the rear of the Russian army.
Ukrainian forces are likely to liberate Kupyansk in the Kharkiv region within the next 72 hours, seriously damaging Russia’s lines of communication with Izyum. This was announced by the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) in a report for 8 September.
“Ukrainian forces have made significant progress in the Kharkiv region and are advancing towards Kupyansk, a key center of Russian forces supporting the Izyum direction … the Ukrainian military is likely to capture Kupyansk within next 72 hours,” analysts said.
According to ISW, the loss of Kupyansk and other rear areas will hamper Russia’s efforts to support offensive and defensive operations.
“The relatively fast pace of the advance of Ukrainian troops, the proximity to Kupyansk and the ability to bombard the city are causing fear in the Russian rear,” the report said.
Ukrainian successes on the Kharkiv-Izyum line are creating cracks in the Russian information space and undermining the credibility of the Russian command, military experts point out.
ISW added that Ukrainian forces continue to attack Russian command posts and ammunition depots in the Kherson region.
Recall that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that in three days the Ukrainian military, with the support of the local population, advanced almost 50 km in the Kharkiv region.
