The investigation found that the alloy in the aircraft’s engine lubrication pump did not comply with US procurement laws.
The US Department of Defense has stopped receiving new F-35 aircraft after it was discovered that the magnet used in the fighter’s engine was made from unlicensed material from China. Reuters reported this on September 7.
Pentagon spokesman Russell Goumare said the investigation, which began in mid-August, found that the alloy in the F-35 engine’s lubrication pump did not comply with US procurement laws.
At the same time, Gumare confirmed that the magnet does not transmit information and does not harm the aircraft.
Jet engine manufacturer Lockheed Martin said “the problem is in the magnet of the Honeywell F-35 turbomachine, which includes an alloy of cobalt and samarium.”
The fighter jet engine contractor said it would seek alternative sources for the material.
It will be recalled that in July, workers went on strike at three Boeing factories in the United States, where fighter jets and drones are made.
In the Russian Federation, the “cannibalization” of aircraft is recognized
