Moscow responded in a mirror image to Kyiv’s actions and will fulfill its duty to the end, the head of the Russian Federation said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a speech at the Eastern Economic Forum on September 7, said that Russia did not start the conflict in Ukraine, but is trying to end it.
According to him, Moscow responded to Ukraine’s actions and “nothing was lost.”
“I am sure that we have not lost and have nothing to lose … The main benefit is the strengthening of our sovereignty … Yes, there is a certain polarization both in the world and within the country, but I believe that it will only benefit. Everyone unnecessary and harmful will be rejected. We will achieve momentum and speed of development,” Putin insisted, answering the question of what Russia has gained and what it has lost since the start of the “special operation” in Ukraine on February 24.
He pointed out the importance of the thesis that the Russian Federation “has not started anything in terms of military operations in Ukraine, but is only trying to finish.”
The Russian president says the war in eastern Ukraine in 2014 was started by those “who did not want normal peaceful development and sought to suppress their own people.”
“After repeated attempts to resolve this peacefully, Russia has decided to respond in a mirror manner to how the potential enemy behaves … All our actions are aimed at helping the people who live there in Donbas. This is our duty and we will fulfill it to the end. In the end, this will lead to the strengthening of our country,” said Putin.
Recall that two months ago, the Russian leader made a similar statement. Putin then emphasized that the Russian Federation “seriously did not start anything in Ukraine.”
