Guterres said he “remains seriously concerned about the situation in and around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, including reports of recent shelling.”
To prevent a nuclear disaster at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, it is necessary to create a demilitarized perimeter around it, as well as to stop any military actions in the direction of the plant or from it. This was announced on Tuesday, September 6, by UN Secretary General António Guterres at a meeting of the UN Security Council.

According to Guterres, any damage, intentional or accidental, to the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, or damage to any other nuclear facility in Ukraine, could lead to a nuclear disaster that would affect the neighboring region and beyond more here.
The Secretary General of the UN called for all possible measures to be taken to avoid this scenario.
“As a first step, the Russian and Ukrainian forces must commit themselves not to take any military action to or from this facility. The Zaporozhye nuclear power plant must not be a facility or a platform for military operations,” he said.
As a second step, Guterres called for an agreement on a demilitarized perimeter around the station. In particular, it provides the obligation of Russian forces to withdraw military personnel and equipment from the perimeter, as well as the obligation of Ukrainian forces not to advance on this perimeter.
Recall that today the IAEA published a report on the visit to the ZNPP, which calls for the creation of a protective zone around the nuclear power plant to prevent its damage.
It was also learned that part of the mission’s staff left the nuclear power plant, two representatives of the IAEA remained there.
