EU arms stockpile – Borrell

The head of EU diplomacy expressed regret that the EU missed the opportunity to start training the Ukrainian armed forces a year ago.

The stockpiles of weapons in the European Union are exhausted, they need to be replenished by joint efforts. This was said by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, AP reports.

“The military stocks of most member states are, I wouldn’t say exhausted, but exhausted to a large extent, because we provide a lot of potential for the Ukrainians,” Borrell said in a debate with lawmakers in Europe and urged EU countries to cooperate better. their spending on military equipment to avoid unnecessary expenses.

The head of EU diplomacy expressed regret that the EU missed the opportunity to start training the Ukrainian armed forces a year ago, months before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. According to Borrell, if this had been done last year, the situation would have been better than it is now.

“Unfortunately, we did not do this, and now we regret it. We regret that in August of last year we did not follow this request, this request was not fulfilled,” he said.

Recall that EU defense ministers approved military assistance to Ukraine in the form of training events at various levels.
