A significant part of the citizens of the Russian Federation supports the war in Ukraine and approves the killing of Ukrainian civilians.
The EU’s eighth package of sanctions should include visa restrictions on Russian citizens, as those who support the war against Ukraine should not travel to Europe for entertainment. This was announced on Sunday, September 4, by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Europe is not a Disneyland for supporters of terrorism,” he stressed.
The Ukrainian leader said he discussed the new sanctions package with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. For his part, Zelensky insisted that the eighth sanctions package should include pan-European visa solutions for Russians, so that no one involved in the war against Ukraine can enjoy European hospitality.
“If Russian citizens support terrorism against Ukraine, against the whole of Europe, if they silently follow the genocide in Ukraine, then they should not use Europe for entertainment and pleasure. This is an important moral thing. Europe is a territory of values and visa restrictions are exactly what the free world should encourage the Russians to act, to act against those who started this war,” Zelensky said.
The President also added that Ukraine has repeatedly warned Europe that maintaining Nordstream relations with Russia will be a problem that could turn into a disaster at any moment. That’s exactly what happened.
“Visa omnivorous attitude towards the citizens of the aggressor state, financial relations with Russia, energy dependence on Russia – all these are things that Moscow uses against Europe. And I thank the European leaders who aware of the threat level,” Zelensky said.
Recall that the Prime Minister of Estonia Kaja Kallas at the Hayek Foundation International Prize ceremony in Berlin called for Russia to be kept isolated until the complete de-occupation of Ukrainian territories.
