The current head of the Kremlin informed the last Secretary General of the USSR on an individual basis – two days before the official ceremony.
The head of the ruling regime of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, refused to participate in the general farewell ceremony for Mikhail Gorbachev. However, he laid flowers on the coffin of the President of the USSR at the Moscow Central Clinical Hospital on an individual basis. This is what Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said, according to the pro-government publication RIA-Novosti on Thursday, September 1.
He added that the Kremlin leader “will not agree to participate” in the funeral of the last general secretary. The farewell ceremony for Gorbachev will take place on September 3.
“Therefore, I decided to definitely do it now,” Peskov explained.
According to the press secretary, Russia will help arrange Gorbachev’s funeral. He added that “there will be elements of a state funeral”, as well as a “guard of honour” will be provided at the coffin of the deceased.
Recall that Gorbachev died at the age of 92 in Moscow.
It should be noted that Gorbachev declared that the world could be “better, more stable, safer and fairer if the USSR still existed.”
