The agreement provides an additional 5.8 million cubic meters of gas per day from September 1.
Hungary on Wednesday, August 31, signed an additional contract with Gazprom. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, wrote the local edition 24.hu.
The agreement provides for the supply of an additional 5.8 million cubic meters of gas per day from September 1 – that is, almost half of what Russia must supply under the current contract.
Szijjártó pointed out that Hungary’s energy supply is impossible without Russian resources, and he said that he visited Moscow in the first half of the summer to discuss the possibility of buying more natural gas from Russia.
“An agreement has also been reached for the periods of September and October,” announced the Foreign Minister.
All this means that from September 1, Gazprom will supply Hungary with additional volumes of natural gas in addition to the signed long-term contracts.
In Hungary’s energy balance, Russian gas occupies about 85%, so it is definitely against sanctions on its imports. Hungary calls its policy with Russia “pragmatic relations.”
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that after the end of Russia’s war against Ukraine, the West will be weaker than before it started. He believes that the Western countries will not be able to win the war in Ukraine by military means, and that the sanctions against Russia will not break it in any way.
