According to the police, the girl was taken to a house where she was abused by five men. They face up to 20 years in prison.
In partially recognized Kosovo, the case of the rape of an 11-year-old girl by five men in the capital, Pristina, was being discussed for a fourth day. Because of this, the head of the penitentiary service and the police lost their positions. This was reported by local publications Exit and Kosovo Online.
The rape happened on Saturday but was first reported on Sunday. According to the police, the girl was taken to a house where she was assaulted by up to five men.
Police later announced the arrest of all five suspects, including three minors. One of them, as it happened, had nine convictions, others posted photos and videos with rap music weapons on social networks.
Kosovo’s Interior Minister Celal Svechla, President Vyosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti condemned the crime. The country’s police chief, Samedin Mehmeti, and the head of the penitentiary service, Alya Gashi, resigned.
On Wednesday, non-governmental human rights organizations held a protest against violence against women in Pristina, where several thousand people chanted the slogans Protect Women and Girls, Educate the Boys and Blame the State.
Human rights activists have drawn attention to the fact that in Kosovo, rapes in more than 70% of cases involve minors. At the same time, the police say that this year, compared to 2021, the number of rape cases has decreased.
In Kosovo, rape is punishable by two to 10 years in prison, and if the victim is a minor, from five to 20 years.
Recall that in Germany, two men were accused of brutally raping an 18-year-old refugee from Ukraine.
