7% of Ukrainians do not plan to return from abroad – poll

Most residents of the western and central regions plan to return in the near future.

According to a survey by the Razumkov Center, the majority of Ukrainians who have temporarily lived abroad plan to return to Ukraine, and only 7% of respondents do not plan to return.

“When giving an answer about their intentions to return to Ukraine, 36% of the respondents expressed their intention to return after they were convinced that it is safe in the place where they live, 35% – immediately after the war, 13 % – a year or several years after the war, 7% – after the business where they worked continue to work or they are sure that they will find another job at home, 11% plan to return in the near future, and 7% are do not intend to return to Ukraine at all (among those who permanently work in the country of residence of such 18%),” the report said.

Residents of the western (18%) and central (15%) regions are more likely to plan to return in the near future, while only 6% of refugees from the eastern and southern regions plan to return.

88% of those planning to return to Ukraine answered that they plan to live in the same region where they lived before the war, 7% – that they plan to live in another region (mostly residents of the eastern region).

81% of the respondents answered that they had worked before the war. Among those who had a job before the war, only 11% are sure that when they return they will work in the place where they worked before, 34% hope, 12% hope to find another job, and 36% do not. know where they will live, work and look for work.

The online survey was conducted by the social service of the Razumkov Center from July 20 to August 25, 2022 among Ukrainians aged 18 and over, who, after the start of the full-scale invasion of Russia, left Ukraine in connection with battles.

It was previously reported that, according to a preliminary estimate by the UK Bureau for National Statistics, 42% of refugees from Ukraine have found work in the new territory – compared to 9% in April.
