The heads of the French and German Foreign Ministries “Russia’s war against Ukraine must be a strategic failure for the Kremlin.
Europe needs an updated approach to Russia. In particular, it should include: support for Ukraine, strengthening the defense of EU and NATO member states, support for opponents of the Russian regime. This is stated in a “secret article” written by the Foreign Ministers of Germany and France – Annalena Burbock and Catherine Colonna, available at dpa (German Press Agency).
Text of the German and French proposals sent to other Member States for discussion at an informal meeting of Foreign Ministers on August 30-31 in Prague
The text “very clearly” indicates what should be the goal of supporting Ukraine, the newspaper notes.
“To prevent future aggression, Russia’s war against Ukraine must be a strategic failure (for the Kremlin – ed.)”, – said the message.
The failure of Russia’s aggressive plans is defined in the text “in the broadest sense” and also includes the complete severing of ties with Russia in the energy field.
The document also acknowledges that support for Ukraine “comes at a price,” which is likely to “increase.”
The EU’s strategic communication efforts should aim to show how support for Ukraine can enhance European security in the long term and why sanctions are necessary and effective, the German and French foreign ministers said in an article .
It will be remembered that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba held talks in Prague with German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock.
In addition, Germany suspended the simplified visa regime in the Russian Federation.
