The high-speed route St. Petersburg – Helsinki is no longer in operation – the Finnish company has phased out the Allegro electric trains.

Finnish state railway operator VR Group has canceled all Allegro electric trains running between St. Petersburg and Helsinki. This was stated in VR Group’s financial report for the first half of 2022.

“The company has written off all Allegro-related rolling stock and spare parts for a total of 45.4 million euros,” the company said in a statement.

Remember that Russians widely use the border in Estonia or Finland to enter the EU. Since the beginning of a full-scale war in Ukraine, more than 60% of Russians have used these borders.

In addition, Russian citizens actively withdraw money from ATMs in Finland using cards from the Chinese payment system UnionPay.
