The head of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry believes that we have never been closer to a nuclear disaster than now. And simply expressing regret about the situation may not be enough.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis considers it necessary to discuss sending peacekeepers to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. He said this before the meeting of EU Foreign Ministers on Tuesday, August 30, in Prague, the European Pravda report reported.
“We have never been closer to a nuclear catastrophe than we are now. To be honest, just expressing regret about the situation may not be enough. I think we need to go back to similar discussions that we had almost half a year ago, that perhaps even a military peacekeeping force, which will ensure nuclear security in and around the ZNPP, can be discussed and, of course, is necessary,” said the Lithuanian Foreign Minister.
Earlier it was reported that a mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency went to the Zaporozhye NPP.
Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba said the IAEA should recognize Russia’s violation of nuclear protocols at the ZNPP.
