The WHO leader noted that crises continue in Ethiopia, Yemen, Afghanistan and Syria, but it does not raise the same concerns of the world community as the war in Ukraine.
The world does not pay equal attention to emergencies that affect blacks and whites. This was stated by the head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, wrote the BBC.
He noted that only a small part of the assistance provided to Ukraine was given to other humanitarian crises.
At the same time, Ghebreyesus acknowledged that aid to Ukraine is “very important” because it “affects the whole world.”
According to the WHO head, crises continue in Ethiopia, Yemen, Afghanistan and Syria, but it does not cause the same concern of the world community as the war in Ukraine.
“I don’t know if the world’s attention is really equal to the lives of blacks and whites. I have to be frank and honest that the world treats humanity unequally. And when I say this, it hurts me. Because I see. It’s very hard accept, but it happens, “he said
Ghebreyesus noted that the UN estimates that the Ethiopian region needs 100 trucks a day with essential humanitarian supplies. Armed clashes between the Ethiopian government and Tigray rebels have been going on since early November 2020. Thousands of people, including civilians, have died as a result of the fighting.
It was previously reported that WHO will provide more than 100 tons of aid to Ukraine.
