The Russian Federation is trying to avoid the sanctions imposed on the country and it is able to find loopholes for it.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the European Union to impose an oil embargo on Russia. He also noted that Europe must show a clear readiness to renounce all of Russia’s energy resources. This was announced on Wednesday, April 13, in a video message from Volodymyr Zelensky.
“The European Union must stop sponsoring Russia’s military machine,” the Ukrainian leader urged.
He recalled that a special group of experts was working in Kyiv to study the effectiveness of the sanctions policy in the Russian Federation.
“Today, the policy on sanctions in the West has been reviewed by a group of international experts led by Michael McFaul and Andriy Yermak. The group has been working for three weeks now. It is composed of international and Ukrainian experts assessing the sanctions imposed and how Russia is trying to avoid them, ”the president said.
He also noted that the group has prepared specific proposals on how to eliminate the sanctions loopholes that Russia continues to use, and how to immediately strengthen sanctions so that it is tangible for Moscow.
Recall that the UK has expanded the list of sanctions against Russians. The restrictions affected 206 Russian individuals and legal entities. Earlier, the UK imposed sanctions against two daughters of Russian President Vladimir Putin and the daughter of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
As reported by Athletistic, on April 8, the EU introduced the fifth package of sanctions against Russia in response to the military aggression against Ukraine. The measures include a ban on the import of coal, timber, chemicals and some other restrictions.
