Ukraine’s juvenile prosecutor’s office said this Sunday that at least 380 children have died and around 733 have been injured in attacks carried out by Russia since the beginning of the invasion of the country at the end of February.
According to the authorities, the largest number of child victims was registered in the Donetsk region: 388; Kharkiv, p. 202, capital region, Kyiv, p. 116; Chernihiv (68), Lugansk region (61), Kherson (55), Nikolaev (67), Zaporizhia (44), Sumy (17) and Zhytomyr (15).
Russian bombingcondemns the prosecutor’s Ukrainealso destroyed 2328 educational institutions, of which 289 were completely destroyed, according to the balance compiled by Ukrinform.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights said 5,600 Ukrainian civilians have died and almost 7,900 have been injured in the Russian invasion, according to the latest balance sheet updated to 22 August.
In the same balance sheet, the UN confirmed 362 dead and 610 injured children since the beginning of the war. However, both the UN and the Ukrainian prosecutor’s office fear that these figures are actually lower than the real figures, given the difficulty of collecting information during the conflict.
Ukraine condemns Russian pressure on families
Last Friday, the Ukrainian government said the Russian military was threatening families in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions to take their children away unless they agreed to send them this year to schools already controlled by Russia.
Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko denounced on Twitter threats to send these children to orphanages. “Moscow is using education as a tool of repression,” he said.
Ukraine has called for “urgent” intervention by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in the face of what it considers a “crime” by Russia.
Russia wants to “regulate” the entry and exit of foreigners
For its part, the Russian government announced that it was preparing a law that would “regulate” the entry and exit of foreigners, as well as their residence in Russia.
Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev explained that the situation of foreigners is “an integral part of the security regime”, including because it helps “to prevent serious threats”, TASS reports.
“We are working in a completely different context than a few years ago, and we must take this into account,” added Medvedev, who announced a meeting of the Security Council in September on migration issues in Russia.
