Borrell appreciated the EU’s willingness to cancel visas for the Russian Federation

Termination of relations with the civilian population of Russia will not help in the fight against the Kremlin regime, the diplomat believes.

The heads of the foreign affairs ministries of the countries of the European Union could not reach an agreement on the issue of a complete ban on issuing visas to Russian citizens. This opinion was shared by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, in a comment on the ORF TV channel on Sunday, August 28.

“I don’t think ending relations with the Russian civilian population will help, and I don’t think this idea will have the necessary unity,” he said.

At the same time, the politician emphasized the need to complicate the process of issuing visas to some Russians.

“I think we should reconsider the way some Russians get visas, oligarchs. We should be more selective. But I’m not in favor of stopping issuing visas to all Russians,” said said Borrell.

Remember, according to the Financial Times, EU foreign ministers next week at an informal meeting in Prague are preparing to support the suspension of the visa facilitation agreement with Russia.
