President of Colombia Gustavo Petrowill attend the presidential summit this Monday Andean Community of Nations (DOG), which will be his first trip abroad since he became head of state, sources in his office told Efe on Friday.
The President of Colombia is due to travel to Lima this Monday to take part in the XXII Andean Presidential Council, which will be attended by his colleagues from Peru, Pedro Castillo; Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, and Bolivia, Luis Arce.
Peru will take over from Ecuador the temporary chairmanship of this regional organization, founded in 1969, at a summit that will deal with regional issues.
Revive Andean Community
During a meeting with Chilean President Gabriel Boric a day after his inauguration Gustavo Petro He called for the strengthening and revival of both the Andean Community and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in a message consistent with the Latin American unity he repeatedly called for.
“We talked, in particular, about the revival Andean community (…) that in times of economic thought, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) played a very important role in planning the industrialization processes of our countries,” Petro said at a press conference after a bilateral meeting with Borik.
Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru are part of the Andean Community, which seeks integration on the continent but has fallen out of favor with the withdrawal of Chile in 1976, Venezuela in 2011, and change of governments in other countries. .
However, this union of Andean countries has achieved milestones of integration, such as allowing citizens of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru to live, work and move freely between the four territories, which are home to 111 million people.
This allows them, as tourists, to travel without a visa for 90 days, renewable for the same period, and temporary residents to stay for two years, renewable for the same period.
