Ukraine effectively uses in the war the “Operational concept of resistance”, developed by the United States and NATO allies back in 2013, and which allows countering superior enemy forces.
The Russian invasion provides an opportunity to test the concept in combat. And after six months of war, US and European officials recognize its effective use by Ukraine, writes CNN.
Signs of the use of the concept can be seen, in particular, in a series of recent explosions in the Crimea, most likely organized by saboteurs. This is supported by the fact that, for example, air defense did not work at the airfield in Saki.
The concept also provides for the training of the military abroad, the publication of videos with the destruction of enemy equipment with overdubbed music, videos of the military rescuing animals, a video message and interviews with government officials. All this is observed in Ukraine.
Because you can’t do it the normal way, you’ll have to use special operations forces, and those forces will need resistance support – intelligence, resources, logistics – to gain access to these regions, said Kevin D. Stringer, a retired army colonel who led a group of developers of the concept of resistance.
He noticed signs of its use in Ukraine.
A Ukrainian government report shared with CNN reports that in early April, General Richard Clarke, head of the US Special Operations Command, told a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing:
The United States over the past 18 months has helped train resistance companies in Ukraine assigned to special forces.
When asked if he sees the success of this training in the current conflict, Clark was direct in his response: “Yes, Senator.”
At the beginning of the conflict, the Ukrainian government created a website explaining the different ways to resist the occupiers.
The site describes ways to use non-violent action, such as boycotting mass events, labor strikes, and even how to use humor and satire. The goal is to disrupt the ability of the pro-Russian authorities to govern, to remind the population of the legitimate sovereignty of Ukraine.
The resistance doctrine also provides for violent actions, including the use of Molotov cocktails, deliberately starting fires, and pouring chemicals into gas tanks to sabotage enemy vehicles.
