Serbia is ready to sign an agreement on driving licenses with Kosovo, but does not intend to recognize independence.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Saturday, August 27, announced the country’s readiness to make concessions to the Kosovo authorities in recognizing a driver’s license. However, Belgrade is demanding guarantees from the EU.
“Purely for practical reasons and for the sake of freedom of movement, we are ready to issue a general document, which will talk about the possibility of exercising the rights issued in Pristina, but this does not mean recognizing the freedom of Kosovo,” Vučić said.
Under the conditions of recognition, he asked for guarantees from the European Union so that Kosovo Serbs with documents issued in Serbia could move freely.
Earlier, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said he did not intend to further delay the entry into force of the regional ban on vehicles with Serbian license plates.
Recall that the situation in Kosovo became more complicated on July 31 against the background of the authorities’ decision to ban the entry of cars with Serbian number plates and relevant Serbian documents from August 1.
After the US reaction, Kosovo decided to postpone the procedure for imposing a ban on Serbian documents until September 1. In Pristina, they stressed that they would make a concession as soon as the Serbs protesting against the innovations were dismantled the barricades.
