They will be used to clear approaches to ports. They are capable of operating at depths of up to 100 m, helping to locate mines using sensors.
The UK will move underwater drones to Ukraine to clear approaches to Black Sea ports to ensure grain exports from the country. This was stated in the statement of the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom, which was distributed on Saturday, August 27.
It was noted that a total of six unmanned underwater vehicles will be delivered: three of them will be taken from the stocks of the British Armed Forces, and the rest will also be purchased by London from defense companies. Such devices are capable of working at a depth of up to 100 m, helping to locate mines using sensors.
In addition, the UK will train Ukrainian Navy personnel in the handling of these weapons in the coming months as part of a three-week course in conjunction with the US Sixth Fleet.
“This is important equipment and the training will help Ukraine secure its waters, facilitate the export of grain to other countries, and also allow us to support the Armed Forces in protecting the coast and ports it,” said British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace.
The Kingdom’s Ministry of Defense has clarified that the first group of Ukrainian military personnel has begun training.
It was previously reported that Britain would help Ukraine restore infrastructure destroyed by the war. The relevant agreement has already been signed.
