The Prime Minister of Estonia believes that Russian tourists should not travel to the EU until Russia’s aggression against Ukraine stops.
Russians use the border with Estonia or Finland to enter the EU: since the beginning of a large-scale war in Ukraine, more than 60% of Russians have used these borders. It was reported by ERR.
Since February 24, 998,000 Russians have legally entered the territory of the European Union, of which 329,000 through Finland and 282,000 through Estonia.
At the same time, more than 132 thousand Russian citizens entered the EU through Lithuania, which borders the Kaliningrad region, and 26.5 thousand through Poland.
More than 8,000 Russians entered the EU through Norway in six months, and returned via the same route – about 6,000.
“It is imperative that Russian tourists do not travel to the EU until Russia’s aggression against Ukraine stops. This is about protecting national security and the integrity of EU sanctions. And it is a matter of moral certainty of EU at a time when Russia is continuing a genocidal war in Europe. ban, there should be humanitarian exceptions – for trips to family members, close relatives. Borders should also be open to dissidents and asylum seekers,” said Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.
It was previously reported that EU foreign ministers at a meeting on August 31 will discuss visa restrictions for Russians against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine.
