Several emergency outages occurred at Zaporizhzhya NPP, the station was completely disconnected from the power grid.
On Thursday, August 25, there were several emergency outages from the power grid at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation reports.
So, as a result of the battles in the area of the ZNPP location, at 12:12, the overhead line of the 750 kV Dneprovskaya overhead line was disconnected. As a result, power unit No. 5 was turned off, followed by emergency protection operation, and the power unit No. 6 was moved to meet its own needs.
By 12:29, as a result of the continuation of the work of the overhead line, the power unit No. 6 was connected to the network, but at 14:14 it was turned off again.
The regulator said it had no comments on the operation of the automation and security systems.
Energoatom also commented on the situation at ZNPP.
“Today, August 25, 2022, due to fires in the ash dumps of the Zaporizhzhya TPP, located near the Zaporizhzhya NPP, the last (fourth) line of communication of the ZNPP with the energy system of Ukraine, the 750 kV overhead line of ZNPP – Dniprovska, was disconnected twice. Three other communication lines were previously damaged during the Russian shelling. As a result, two operating power units of the station were disconnected from the network. Thus, the actions of the occupiers led to the complete disconnection of the Zaporizhzhya NPP from the power grid – the first in the station’s history,” the report said.
It was noted that the NPP’s own needs for power supply are provided from the energy system of Ukraine through the ZNPP – Zaporizhzhya TPP communication line.
“There is no comment yet on the operation of the automation and security systems. Start-up operations are underway to connect one of the power units to the network,” Energoatom added.
Earlier it became known that due to the disconnection of ZNPP from the power grid, electricity was completely lost in all the southern territories of Ukraine occupied by the Russian Federation.
