Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov assured on Tuesday that the worst of the war scenarios was “left behind” and now Kyiv they are in a new phase of “stabilizing” the situation for a counterattack.
“We’re in a stage of stabilization across the entire battlefield or frontline with little unit movement, doing a lot of good deterrence,” Reznikov told CNN.
This “new phase” of the war against Russiahe explained, will allow the Armed Forces Ukraine to launch new counter-offensives “in other directions”, for which it asked its international partners not to fall into the “fatigue syndrome” that occurs during a protracted armed conflict of this type.
Reznikov pointed out that this “fatigue syndrome” is “one of the main threats” to Ukraine during the war with Russia. “We have to deal with this, communicate and talk with our partners, because it is “very dangerous for us.”
A million people fled from Ukraine
A total of 967,546 war refugees have arrived from Ukraine in Germany, at least temporarily, since the start of the Russian invasion on February 24, the German Interior Ministry said in a statement today.
According to the data of the Central Register of Foreigners, updated until last Sunday, about 36% are children and teenagers, most of them of primary school age.
Among adults, about 74% are women and about 8% are over 64 years of age.
US sends support to Ukraine again
The United States plans to send Ukraine another $775 million in missiles, drones, vehicles and supplies to clear mines in the country, a package that will also include 16 U.S. M-777 howitzers, known as howitzers, and ammunition.
The Pentagon announced that 50 HMMWV (Humvees) military vehicles, 40 MaxxPro armored personnel carriers, 1,500 TOW anti-tank missiles, another 1,000 Javelins, secure communications systems and, among other things, night vision devices will be sent.
“We want to make sure that Ukraine has an uninterrupted supply of ammunition to meet its needs, and this is what we are doing with this package,” a security official told reporters on condition of anonymity.
The EU is divided on the ban on Russian tourists
The President of Ukraine asked the European Union to veto the entry of Russian tourists into the bloc, but the response was not unanimous, with some members agreeing and others resisting.
Some countries bordering Russia already limit the number of visa applications or limit the number of visas issued, but there is no unanimous decision or position at the community level.
The issue will be discussed at a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Prague on 31 August.
