The Russian leader decided to attack out of resentment, which turned into paranoia, the French leader believed.

French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview with Le Point weekly that Russian leader Vladimir Putin was committed to his offensive in the Donbass and aimed to achieve victory on May 9. This was announced on April 12 by the BFM TV channel.

Macron said Putin was targeting a “glorious military parade on May 9” and was unlikely to be brought to the negotiating table in the short term.

Answering a question about the reasons that prompted his Russian counterpart to invade Ukraine, Macron stressed that “Putin’s resentment has turned into paranoia.”

“And Putin’s isolation only exacerbated the situation after the sanctions in 2014. The role of COVID should also not be underestimated … He was in Sochi for several months, confined himself, had little contact with other politicians, “said the French president.

Macron also explained his many phone conversations with his Russian counterpart.

“If he doesn’t talk to anyone else, we don’t know how far he can go,” the politician said.

Recall that in early March, Macron said that Putin sought to take over all of Ukraine and “the worst is yet to come.”
