Six people were killed and 17 others injured when lightning struck a group of people gathered for a funeral ceremony in northern Yemen.

It was noted that the incident took place in the Asha district of the northern province of Amran.

In total, at least 97 people have died in Yemen since July due to floods, downpours and lightning. The country has been suffering from severe weather for several weeks. According to the international humanitarian agency CARE, 190 properties housing more than 12,000 internally displaced families in the central province of Marib were destroyed by heavy rains and floods.

It was earlier reported that in the US state of Georgia, one soldier was killed and nine injured as a result of being struck by lightning during training sessions.
