The new funding package aims to help Ukraine strengthen its defenses in the medium to long term, the sources said.
The US administration will announce a record $3 billion military aid package for Kyiv on Ukraine’s Independence Day on August 24. The Associated Press reported this with reference to unnamed officials on Tuesday, August 23.

This money will be used to finance contracts for the supply of drones, weapons and other equipment, which “may not appear on the battlefield for a year or two.”
The funds will also be used to train and equip Ukrainian troops to ensure their combat readiness “for years to come.”
It is emphasized that, unlike previous packages, the new funding is mainly aimed at helping Ukraine strengthen its defense position in the medium and long term. Whereas previous deliveries focused on Ukraine’s immediate needs for arms and ammunition.
To date, the United States has provided approximately $10.6 billion in military aid to Ukraine.
It will be recalled that last week the United States announced another $775 million military aid package to Ukraine, which includes ammunition for the HIMARS MLRS and 105-mm howitzers.
The media also reported that the United States would later transfer Excalibur guided missiles to Kyiv.
