NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg predicts a difficult winter in the war of attrition, but promises all kinds of help to Ukraine in the war against the Russian Federation.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg predicts a difficult winter as the war launched by Russia against Ukraine is a war of attrition. At the same time, the Secretary General expressed his readiness to support Ukraine. Stoltenberg said this at the Crimean Platform summit, Ukrinform reports.
“The winter will be difficult, the war will be attrition. This is a struggle of wills, as well as logistics, so we must continue to support Ukraine – so that in the future Ukraine will win as a sovereign independent country,” he said .
Stoltenberg stressed that the Russian Federation, which occupied Crimea, made it one of the most militarized places on the planet and turned it into a springboard for a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
“President Putin thought he could destroy the Ukrainian people and their armed forces, that he could divide democratic countries and dictate his terms. But he was wrong,” the secretary general said, adding that Putin himself should stop the war.
As Stoltenberg recalled, at the NATO summit in Madrid at the end of June, it was decided to provide Ukraine with fuel, medicines, food, means of communication and means of protection against weapons of mass destruction.
“We are also helping to prepare for the winter season. We are helping Ukraine to defend itself,” added the Secretary.
Stoltenberg stressed that NATO is committed to the goal of cooperation with Ukraine, helping it transition to NATO standards of weapons and military command and will remain in Ukraine “as long as necessary.”
It will be recalled that the NATO Secretary General called for the demilitarization of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
