War in Ukraine: UNICEF estimates losses among children

An average of five children a day became victims of war. Most of the deaths and injuries were caused by the use of explosive weapons.

Since the start of Russia’s massive invasion of Ukraine, at least 972 Ukrainian children have been killed or injured. The said data on Monday, August 22, was given by the Executive Director of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Katherine Russell, the organization’s press service reported.

According to Russell, an average of five children a day became victims of war. Most of the deaths and injuries were caused by the use of explosive weapons.

Overall, UNICEF said, the war has affected almost all children in Ukraine.

As indicated, the education system is also under attack. In particular, every tenth Ukrainian school was destroyed or damaged.

“Ukraine’s children urgently need security, stability, access to safe education, protective services and psychosocial support. But above all, Ukraine’s children need peace,” said of the director.

Remember, according to the latest data from the Office of the Prosecutor General, the number of affected children in Ukraine has grown to 1096 – 373 dead and 723 injured.
