Russia’s big three state channels beat Telegram for the first time, with reach jumping from 19.1% to 26.8% between February and July.
Audience coverage of Channel One, Russia-1 and NTV fell by a quarter after the start of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. This was reported by The Moscow Times in connection with a study of media consumption by Russians, conducted by Romir.
According to him, at the beginning of the war, 33.7% of the Russian population watched Una, in July – which was 25.5%. Coverage of Russia-1 decreased from 30.9% to 23%, NTV – from 21.1% to 16.6%. As a result, Russia’s big three state channels lost to Telegram for the first time, with coverage jumping from 19.1% to 26.8% from February to July.
“State propaganda is becoming less effective, although it still uses the mindsets that were hardwired into the brain in the early stages of evolution, when our ancestors lived in herds competing for food,” says psychiatrist Viktor Lebedev about the situation.
According to him, propagandists observe a principle called parochial altruism. They exaggerate differences, appeal to the image of the enemy, and create dangers that do not exist in real life. People, however, following the mechanisms of the brain, as a rule, easily agree to the scenario “harm to the stranger” and “benefit for their group.”
At the same time, the monotonous flow causes fatigue, and the absence of the promised crushing victory is accompanied by growing disappointment: today only 2% of Russians believe that the war will end within a month, although in March there are 14% of such people, the Chronicles project survey showed.
Public support for the war fell from 66% in April to 55% in July, with one in four people cut off from friends and family, and 43% admitting to experiencing severe anxiety and depression .
Earlier it was reported that in the Kherson region, the occupiers held a demonstrative opening of the regional TV channel Tavria. Specialists of the Russian broadcaster train journalists for this regional TV channel.
