Militants close to al-Qaeda of the Somali group Al-Shabaab entered the hotel on Friday night after detonating two vehicles at the building’s entrance.
The siege of the hotel continued till Sunday evening. According to unconfirmed local media reports, during the operation to free the hotel, drone strikes were carried out on the building. Soldiers of Somalia’s special forces trained in the USA and Turkey took part in the attack.
As a result, the hotel building was freed from the militants, they were destroyed. But official information from the authorities about this, as well as about the exact number of victims, has not yet been received.
It will be remembered that at the end of July in Somalia there were two terrorist attacks in the southern province of Lower Shabelle. At least 20 people died then.
Earlier in Somalia, an explosion at a cafe killed 10 people. The explosive device was detonated by a suicide bomber in a cafe in downtown Beledweyne.
