The easing will be valid until March 31, 2024 – until gas tariffs increase.
Due to the increase in gas prices, the German federal government plans to exempt consumers from VAT on this product. This was announced by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Ukrinform reports.
In the future, the gas consumption tax will be 7% instead of the current 19%.
“The increase in energy prices is a huge burden for many citizens. The Federal Government agrees that gas consumers should not bear any additional burden due to the mandatory imposition of value added tax on gas surcharges… Therefore, we decided to reduce the value added tax of gas consumption to seven percent for a limited time,” explained Scholz.
The easing will be valid until March 31, 2024 – until gas tariffs increase. With this step, the politician said, the authorities eased the situation for gas consumers more than the additional burden caused by surcharges.
In addition, according to the head of government, a third aid package will be offered in the coming weeks to further relieve the pressure on many citizens, as well as on companies.
Let’s remind, earlier it was reported that from the beginning of the week the price of gas in the European market grew by more than 400 dollars. Today the price per thousand cubic meters exceeds $2,600.
