The European Union, together with other countries of the world, turned to Russia with an immediate demand to take away its war criminals from the territory of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and all of Ukraine.
We call on the Russian Federation to immediately withdraw its military forces and all other unauthorized personnel from the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, its immediate environs and all of Ukraine so that the operator and Ukrainian authorities can restore their sovereign responsibilities within Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders, the statement said. which was published on the website of the EU delegation to international organizations in Vienna.
The countries emphasize that the presence of Putin’s army at the ZNPP poses a threat to its safe operation. The statement was joined by all EU members and the European Union as a separate signatory, Norway, Britain, USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Georgia, Moldova, North Macedonia and Turkey.
The countries remind that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is a gross violation of international law and the UN Charter, and Moscow’s control over the ZNPP threatens the principles of nuclear safety. The deployment of the Russian military and weapons on the territory of the station is unacceptable and is a disregard for the principles of safety and risk prevention that all IAEA members have committed to respect, the signatories emphasize.
Countries condemn the Kremlin’s attempts to justify its illegal actions in Ukraine due to misinformation.
Recall that earlier UN Secretary General António Guterres called for an immediate cessation of hostilities near Europe’s largest nuclear power plant and the creation of a demilitarized zone around the ZNPP. At the same time, Russia rejected UN calls for a demilitarized zone.
