Oslo cannot supply more gas to Germany and other European countries than it already does, because new fields have to be developed
Norway has not yet had the opportunity to expand gas supplies to Germany and Europe. This is what Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stere said in a meeting with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Oslo, according to the German edition of Spiegel on Tuesday, August 16.
“Not only can we make a political decision, now we give more than before,” – said the head of the Norwegian government.
Op noted that Norway has now increased gas exports and is now providing “the highest it can deliver.”
Stehre added that since Russia invaded Ukraine, gas production in Norway has increased by almost 10%. At the same time, a further increase in production is possible only with the development of new gas fields.
The Prime Minister mentioned that Norway supplies Germany and Europe with more gas and oil than ever before. In particular, the kingdom is Germany’s second largest gas supplier after Russia.
Norway now covers more than 30% of Germany’s natural gas needs. Its imports have grown significantly since the start of the war in Ukraine. This allowed Norway to replace part of its imports from Russia.
Recall that Gazprom reduced gas supplies through Nord Stream 1 to 20% of capacity – 33 million cubic meters per day. At the same time, the gas pipeline is capable of transporting up to 167 million cubic meters. m of gas. The company explained its decision by the fact that it could not use the repaired Siemens turbine, allegedly due to sanctions.
At the same time, the media wrote that Gazprom is burning “extra” gas, which should go through Nord Stream-1.
