Moscow is trying in every possible way to spread lies to cover up war crimes in Ukraine, the permanent representative insisted.
Ukraine’s Permanent Representative to the UN Serhiy Kyslitsa said that Russia, following the example of its Nazi predecessors, is pursuing a policy of extermination of the whole people. He said this on Monday, April 11, at a meeting of the UN Security Council, Ukrinform reports.
He stressed that the scope of atrocities now experienced by women and children in Ukraine is comparable to the trials of World War II.
“The leadership allowed Russian soldiers to kill anyone who considered himself a Ukrainian,” the diplomat said.
At the same time, according to him, Moscow is trying in every possible way to spread lies to hide war crimes. Also, to cover up the killings of thousands of civilians in Mariupol, Russian troops are setting up mobile crematoria to cremate the bodies.
He recalled that to date, more than 4.3 million citizens have left Ukraine, fleeing the “Russian liberators”, 6.5 million people have become internally displaced persons. Most were women and children.
The permanent representative noted that the occupiers had kidnapped and released into Ukraine more than 121,000 children, mainly from Mariupol.
He also informed the Security Council that the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, in cooperation with the pre -trial investigation and health authorities, is launching a special mechanism for documenting cases of sexual violence by Russia’s military against to Ukrainian women.
In addition, Kislitsa read aloud a letter from a 9 -year -old boy from Gostomel, Kiev region, written to his deceased mother, who died during the occupation.
“Mom, this letter is my gift to you on Women’s Day March 8. Thank you for the best nine years of my life. Thank you so much for my childhood. You are the most beautiful mother in the world. I will never forget you. I wish you good luck in heaven. I hope you go to heaven. I will try to be well so that I can go to heaven too. I kiss you, your Tolya. “
Kislitsa said the child’s mother was killed by the Russian military when they tried to leave occupied Gostomel by car. The child remained in the car until locals rescued him and took him to a shelter.
Ukraine’s representative to the UN stressed that the presence of such and similar letters indicates that the Security Council itself is not functioning properly.
“Letters like this should not be allowed to be written. If they are written, then there is a terrible mistake, including here at the UN. That is, its mechanism for maintaining global peace and security is not working. properly and should be corrected ”said the diplomat.
At the same time, Kyslytsya draws attention to the fact that such corrections are almost impossible as long as the Russian Federation is allowed to enjoy the rights of a permanent member of the Security Council.
“If we don’t stop the Kremlin, more and more children will be orphaned. More and more mothers will lose children. Now in Ukraine, tomorrow elsewhere,” the ambassador said.
Earlier, the UN said 4,232 civilians had fallen victim to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, 1,793 of whom had died.
