Russia sent a note of protest to the Polish Foreign Ministry, stating that the site was provided here by Polish authorities under an agreement in the 1970s.
The Russian ambassador to Poland accused the Polish authorities of seizing Russian diplomatic property in Warsaw. On Monday, April 11, Reuters reports.
It is an old apartment building during the communist era that Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski said would be used to house Ukrainian refugees fleeing the Russian military aggression.
“This morning, the bailiffs arrived at our diplomatic property at 100 Sobieski Street in Warsaw and, on behalf of the Warsaw city hall, ordered the building to be handed over to the Polish state treasury,” the Russian Ambassador said in Warsaw Sergei Andreev.
“Polish representatives cut the locks on the gates and actually occupied the facility,” he added.
In turn, Trzaskowski said the property, where Soviet diplomats live and known to local residents as Szpiegowo (“Spy”), has been officially moved to the city.
The Russian ambassador last month accused Poland of trying to destroy relations between the two sides by expelling 45 Russian diplomats and blocking the embassy’s bank accounts.
