The publication states that last week, the Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko made a statement about the creation of a Russian military base in this country.
“The creation of a Russian military base in Serbia is a sovereign matter of this country, and it is a matter of interest of the Russian Federation itself,” the diplomat said.
According to him, the position of the republic in the Balkan region in military-technical terms is stronger than it seems, and Serbia is beginning to be considered.
In turn, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that “Serbia does not need anyone’s military bases.”
Serbia will maintain military neutrality and friendly relations. He will not be ashamed of his relations with Russia, China, the US and the EU, but he will take care of himself,” Vučić said in an interview with Serbian TV Prva.
According to the Russian edition, Serbia has strengthened cooperation with NATO in the South military base around Buyanovac. The head of the US Office of Defense Cooperation, Alexandro Pedraza, confirmed this information.
According to him, Washington and Belgrade will develop the main training center for the Serbian army according to NATO standards, as well as the training of Serbian units for peace operations, at the base of Yug.
Aleksandar Vučić earlier called the EU a strategic path for Serbia. Without European investments and political and legal environment, Serbia cannot achieve anything, the head of state acknowledged.
