The Federal Bureau of Investigation is investigating the actions of the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, regarding espionage law violations and other offenses, threatening him with fines or imprisonment.
Donald Trump is no longer the President of the United States, but continues to attract attention. True, now mainly criminal cases. He has many of them. It turned out that in addition to many of his other eccentric acts, he liked to bring top secret documents home from work. Federal law enforcement officials suspect Trump of seizing or destroying documents, obstructing an investigation, and violating espionage laws.
11 packages of secret documents
Federal Bureau of Investigation agents who searched 45th US President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home on Monday seized 11 packages of classified documents, including some classified as top secret.
In searches of Trump’s residence, about 20 boxes of belongings, a photo file, a handwritten note, a pardon decree for his ally Roger Stone, and a profile of the “President of France” was taken.
The list of seized items, identified by journalists, contains packages of documents: four – with the seal “top secret”, three – with the seal “secret” and three more – confidential. There is no more detailed information about the content of the documents in the list.
Trump’s lawyers say he used his powers to declassify the materials before leaving the presidency. Despite this, there is a law that defines the process of storing even declassified documents.
Everything is serious
At Politico’s disposal is a warrant to search the Trump estate. According to him, federal law enforcement agencies suspect Trump of seizing or destroying documents, obstructing an investigation, and violating espionage laws.
“A conviction under these articles could result in jail time or fines,” Politico said, adding that the warrant indicates “a grave threat to national security, which, according to a federal investigation, constitutes missing documents.”
Trump spokesman Taylor Budovich said the FBI’s actions were “not only unprecedented, but unnecessary — and now they are spreading lies and insinuations to remove the fact that authorities are fighting their main political opponent.”
There is more to do
In addition, Trump was accused of sedition when his supporters rioted the Capitol building on January 6, 2021.
Possible charges include blocking congressional vote counts and conspiring to defraud the United States by overturning election results. Possibly, this threatens Trump not only with large fines, but also with imprisonment.

EPA
In the entire history of the United States, however, no former president has ever been prosecuted. Trump has said he has decided to run in the 2024 presidential election, but it is not yet known when exactly he will announce the start of the campaign.
