According to a study carried out Syracuse University.

Analysis June 2012 – June 2022 also found that nearly 60,000 people were denied entry to ports of entry last February, marking most in a month in the decade under study.

More with Trump

A sharp rise in the number of persons deemed inadmissible has occurred since former President Donald Trump took office in January 2017, the think tank said in a report. Transactional Record Access Information Service (TRAC) from that university.

smaller numbers about inadmissible aliens were reported within a few months after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when entry into the country was restricted and with the entry into force of Section 42, which allows the expulsion of aliens on health grounds.

An increase in the number of foreigners declared unacceptable at more than 300 US ports of entry, including international bridges on the southwestern and northern borders, it happened last year.

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers declare foreigners who come to the border port “unacceptable” because lack of proper permission to enter the country. This does not mean that foreigners will finally be unable to enter the United States.

“Slightly more than half (53%) were ultimately not denied entry and allowed to enter the country,” the report says.

special permission

TRAC explained that the most common method of entry into the United States for those deemed inadmissible at a port of entry is through so-called “grant of parole”a sort of temporary special permit.

For a long time, Cubans tended to make up the majority of parolees in the United States. The analysis showed that from December 2012 to December 2016 Cubans were the largest group of foreigners which allowed them to enter after they were declared ineligible.

After Cubans, Mexicans and Canadians are the next largest parole groups.

CBP officers also allow foreigners declared “inadmissible” on humanitarian grounds to enter. (EFE)
