Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur noted that this decision would allow the closure of the Gulf of Finland for Russian warships.
Estonia, along with Finland, will integrate Coast Guard missile systems as part of previously announced integration of defense plans. This was said by the Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur in an interview with the Finnish newspaper Iltalehti, writing European Truth.
“We must integrate our coastal defense missile systems. The range of Estonian and Finnish missiles is greater than the width of the Gulf of Finland. This means we will integrate our missile defense and share all information with each other one,” he said.
According to him, this decision will allow the closure of the Gulf of Finland for Russian warships.
“The Baltic Sea will become NATO’s internal sea when Finland and Sweden join NATO. The situation will change,” Pevkur said.
The publication writes that the Finns and Estonians planned a joint coastal defense in the 30s, but then both countries had no allies. In NATO, states such as the USA and Great Britain are engaged in the defense of Estonia and Finland.
It should be remembered that the exercises with NATO allies were held in Finland.
It was also reported that a NATO division would be stationed in Estonia.
