The UN Secretary General called for the withdrawal of all military personnel and military equipment from the station and the avoidance of stationing any other military forces or military equipment in this territory.
Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, did not support the proposal to create a demilitarized zone around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. On Thursday, August 11, writes Interfax.ru.
According to him, Russia is “protecting” the seized Ukrainian nuclear power plant from terrorist attacks.
“The demilitarization of the station can make those who want to visit it vulnerable. What their goals and objectives are, no one knows.
We cannot throw away any provocation, terrorist attack on the station, which we must protect,” he said.
It is known that the United States at a meeting of the UN Security Council said that for the safety of ZNPP it is necessary to withdraw Russian troops from there, create a demilitarized zone and provide access for IAEA experts to the plant.
At the same time, the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Serhiy Kyslitsa, emphasized that Russia should allow a mission to the Zaporizhzhya NPP under the auspices of the IAEA without any conditions, clean up the ZNPP facilities and withdraw the military and weapons from the station.
It will be remembered that today, August 11, the Russian invaders fired again at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Five “arrivals” were recorded in the area of the station commandant’s office – next to the welding site and the storage of radiation sources.
Conquerors take ZNPP regularly. The last time a nuclear power plant employee was injured.
Last week, the commander of the Russian garrison at the ZNPP announced that it was a mine and was ready to detonate it.
