The representative of Ukraine at the UN Serhiy Kyslytsya called on the whole world to increase the pressure on Russia and demand from it the complete de-occupation of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
The only way to eliminate the nuclear threat to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is to withdraw Russian troops from its territory and restore Ukrainian control of the plant. This was announced on Thursday, August 11, by the Permanent Representative of Ukraine to the UN, Serhiy Kyslitsa, in his speech to the UN Security Council.
He emphasized that Russia, which has deployed military equipment in the ZNPP, where it is destroying Ukrainian cities along the banks of the Dnieper, is creating an extremely dangerous situation for the whole world.
At the same time, he called on Russia to allow the international IAEA mission to the station without any conditions, not to obstruct the passage of the mission from Ukraine, and also to withdraw troops, weapons and equipment from station and stop shelling Nikopol and Marganet.
Kislitsa stressed that if the Russians do not stop shooting, the mission will not be able to pass through Ukrainian territory to the station.
He also drew attention to the fact that Russia was undermined by the meeting of the UN Security Council.
“This meeting looks cynical, because today Russia has used a new shelling of nuclear power plants, which endangers the facility and its personnel,” he insisted.
In this regard, US Deputy Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Bonnie Jenkins stressed at a UN Security Council meeting that the problems around the station will not stop until Russia withdraws its troops from there.
“The reason for these events is known to everyone – this is another tragic result of the decision of the Russian Federation to launch an invasion on the territory of an independent state. This is a violation of the UN Charter and the principles of international that law,” he said.
Jenkins emphasized that now a full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine threatens a nuclear disaster.
“The decision is absolutely clear: the United States calls on the Russian Federation to immediately withdraw troops from Ukraine, this will allow Ukraine to restore the necessary level of security in the ZNPP, as happened during decades,” said the US representative.
Also, Russia, according to Jenkins, should abandon disinformation that distorts the truth and does not correspond to it. In particular, he considers the statements of the Russian Federation that Ukraine is allegedly to blame for the situation around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant as such disinformation.
Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, placed all responsibility for the threat of a nuclear disaster on Ukraine and the West.
According to him, Russia hopes that IAEA experts will visit the Zaporozhye NPP before the end of August.
It will be remembered that today, August 11, the Russian invaders fired again at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Five “arrivals” were recorded in the area of the station commandant’s office – next to the welding site and the storage of radiation sources.

Last week, the commander of the Russian garrison at the ZNPP announced that it was a mine and was ready to detonate it.
